ABOUT US:
Our Mission

To build trust, provide hope and support steps toward stability for those experiencing homelessness.

Our Values

  • All guests, staff, and volunteers have the same basic needs, including shelter, nutrition, hydration, hygiene, and human connection. Meeting these is the priority in our services.

  • While we all have the same basic needs, how those needs are met may vary. Consideration of the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others will be a part of all decision making.

  • Actions of the staff and volunteers will strive to be friendly, generous, and considerate.

  • Leadership, staff and volunteers will recognize that everybody makes mistakes and provide the opportunity to do better, regardless of any perceived worthiness of that opportunity. This does not eliminate accountability but offers the chance to learn and grow.

Who We Are

What We Do

The Landing MN works to break down the barriers between their guests and the services they need such as housing assistance, medical needs, and much more. Additionally, the organization provides necessities such as toiletries, shoes, food, clothing and laundry services to individuals facing homelessness.

The goal of the organization is to serve as a landing place for those in need, providing assistance and seeking resources to help individuals take positive steps toward security and stability in their lives. The organization works to have boots on the ground in the community, seeking out those who need a helping hand.

Our Story

In 2018, Dan Fifield was working as a nurse in the Emergency Department. He was assigned to care for a young family of five that were experiencing homelessness and living in a compact car with their dog and cat. It was just after the first cold snap of the year and their young daughter had kicked off her boots and had frostbitten toes. Attempting to help, Dan made a few phone calls to local organizations. Unfortunately, this was falsely reported to the administration as providing his personal contact information and Dan was subsequently suspended without pay pending formal investigation and possible termination.

Trying to help the family, Dan made a few phone calls to local organizations. Unfortunately, a false report was made to the administration stating that Dan’s attempts to help were instead him providing his personal contact information to the family. He was suspended from work without pay, pending formal investigation and possible termination.

The following days were full of worry, sadness, disbelief, and many prayers. Amongst the prayers, Dan prayed, “God, whatever you want me to do…I’m in! Just please make it clear to me, because this doesn’t make any sense!”

At that moment, the stress melted away; he knew what he was being called to do.

When his wife and co-founder of The Landing MN, Holly, entered the room, she found Dan with tears streaming down his face and fiercely at work on his laptop. “I know what we’re supposed to do,” he said. Dan then turned the laptop around to show “The Landing” typed on the screen.

“We’re supposed to care for those experiencing homelessness.”

Her response? “Okay.” After all, who was she to argue with a calling from God?

God was and continues to be faithful in providing for the work that needs to be done through The Landing MN. He opens doors where they need to open and closes them where they need to close. He has blessed this organization with a community that has rallied around this cause and helps to provide services, products, and ongoing financial support so the programming of The Landing MN can continue and expand.

Dan and Holly are incredibly thankful for the privilege to serve those in need. They continue to pray for guidance and follow God’s lead - who knows what He has in store!

“If we own the story then we can write the ending.”
